Cruise Port Overview
Corfu is a very manageable independent port: the New Port sits close to the UNESCO Old Town, and dedicated city-bus links run from the cruise area to Spilia and Liston.
Your cruise terminal
Cruise ships dock at the New Port (Neo Limani) located on the northwestern edge of Corfu Town. The facility includes a modern cruise terminal building equipped with an ATM, car-rental desks, free Wi-Fi, and tourist information.
Getting into town
Can you walk? Yes, you can walk from the terminal area into town, though it is roughly a 1.5 to 2-kilometer (about 1 mile) flat walk along the waterfront past the New Fortress into the edge of the historic old town, taking about 20 minutes. Shuttle Bus: While some cruise lines offer private shuttles, public transport is readily available. The local Blue Bus (Route No. 15 or 16/17) picks passengers up directly from a bus stop located inside the port area just outside the terminal building, dropping you off right near the city center or San Rocco Square. Official taxis are also stationed right outside the terminal exit.
History of Corfu
Due to its strategic position at the entrance of the Adriatic Sea, Corfu has a rich, multicultural history. It was successively ruled by the Venetians, French, and British prior to its unification with Greece in 1864. The Venetian influence is exceptionally prominent, having heavily fortified the island and shaped the distinct architecture of its capital.
What to Visit
Corfu Old Town (Kerkyra): A UNESCO World Heritage site characterized by a maze of narrow, cobblestone Venetian alleyways (Campiello), pastel-colored buildings, and vibrant public squares. The Old Fortress (Palaio Frourio) & New Fortress: Massive Venetian fortifications offering sweeping panoramic views over the Ionian Sea and the town rooftops. The Liston & Spianada Esplanade: A grand, arcaded French-style promenade modeled after Paris's Rue de Rivoli, perfect for sitting at an outdoor café. Church of Saint Spyridon: A 16th-century church featuring a soaring red bell tower that houses the relics of the island's patron saint.

Achilleion Palace: Located about 20 to 30 minutes south in Gastouri, this 19th-century neoclassical palace was built by Empress Elisabeth of Austria ("Princess Sissi") and later owned by Kaiser Wilhelm II, surrounded by magnificent gardens overlooking the sea. Kanoni & Mouse Island (Pontikonisi): A famous panoramic viewpoint south of town overlooking the picturesque whitewashed Vlacherna Monastery and the tiny green islet of Mouse Island. Paleokastritsa: Situated on the rugged northwest coast (about a 40-minute drive), renowned for its crystal-clear turquoise bays, dramatic sea caves, and a historic 13th-century clifftop monastery.
Line 16 goes to Spilia in the Old Town. Line 17 goes to Upper Square / Liston, beside Spianada and the Old Fortress.
The port authority places the cruise terminal about 1,600 metres from the Old Town. It is walkable, but summer heat makes the bus attractive.
Useful for Mon Repos, Achilleion, Kanoni or for reducing walking in the heat.
Corfu Port Authority says two free shuttle buses transport passengers from the pier to the terminal.
Two different bus systems
Blue Corfu City Buses serve Corfu Town, the port, Mon Repos, Kanoni and Achilleion. Green intercity buses are used for farther island destinations such as Paleokastritsa; Line 15 can connect you from the port to the intercity bus station.

What can you realistically do yourself?
Corfu Town is very easy independently. Use Line 16 or 17 from the port, then walk the Old Town and Old Fortress. Mon Repos and Kanoni are realistic additions by city bus or taxi. Achilleion and Paleokastritsa need more transport time and work best as the one major excursion beyond town.
