Lisbon is one of the Mediterranean’s easiest city-centre cruise calls when your ship uses Lisbon Passenger Terminal at Molo dei Bersaglieri. Lisbon Old Town and the historic waterfront are immediately beside the terminal. Always confirm the actual berth, because alternative port berths can require a transfer.

Cruise ships use several berths and terminals within the Port of Lisbon, including the Amerigo Vespucci and Donato Bramante terminals. Follow your ship’s own signs because the first shuttle arrangement can vary by berth.Central berths place you immediately next to the historic Alfama neighborhood, riverfront promenades, cafes, and trams.
Getting to Lisbon
Can you walk? If you dock at the central Jardim do Tabaco or Santa Apolónia terminals, absolutely. It is a flat, scenic 10-minute walk (about 1 kilometer) west along the riverfront directly into the historic Praça do Comércio and the Baixa district. If you dock further west at Alcântara, walking into the center is roughly 3 kilometers, so walking is less ideal. Shuttle Bus Pick-Up & Drop-Off Details: If your ship berths at the older western terminals (Alcântara or Rocha), cruise lines or port authorities typically operate direct shuttle buses into the city centre. Taxis and hop-on, hop-off tour buses are stationed outside all terminal exits. For most independent visitors, Lisbon is unusually straightforward. Lisbon Old Town and the Castelo de São Jorge sit on the waterfront, while the Castelo de São Jorge and Lisbon Old Town are inland in Lisbon Town.
History of Lisbon
Perched at the mouth of the Tagus River where it meets the Atlantic Ocean, Lisbon is one of Europe's oldest cities, with early settlements dating back over 3,000 years through Phoenician, Roman, and Moorish hands. During the Age of Discoveries in the 15th and 16th centuries, Lisbon served as the global starting point for legendary explorers like Vasco da Gama. Much of the city was tragically destroyed by the catastrophic 1755 earthquake, tsunami, and fires, leading to its brilliant neoclassical reinvention with wide grid layouts, grand squares, and pombaline architecture.
